Horse and Rider Portraits

Since my family and I have been sick this week and the weather's been nasty, my photo editing is a bit behind. But I'm looking forward to spring! Along with the horse show season kicking up, we have high school seniors needing portrait sessions, more weddings, and all kinds of outdoor fun.

It's also a fun time for Horse and Rider Portraits. We all take and love photos of our horses, but how many great shots do you have of BOTH of you? I like to have more than just horse show action shots. I like to have some nice Portraits!

I did a fun shoot with my friend Liane Moore of Brunswick Farm and her 4 year old Oldenburg Mare, Capella this fall.

Foto Friday

Man, I'm behind on posting. I've managed to mostly keep up with my 365 project. I think I've missed one day in January. Which I'm happy with considering TDYs and all that. I just need to upload and organize them all!
 But for today I have a great shot for "Reflections" :) Even better, this is SOOC.

Warm Thoughts

With the chilly weather, I found myself looking back to the photos I took during this year's extremely warm fall. I distinctly remember wishing for cooler weather.....what was I thinking?

Dawn at the Barn

The Hunter Jumper show at FCRS was canceled at the last minute so I used my early morning for a quiet hack and some dawn pictures. I've been playing with shooting in RAW format, which I was pleased with this morning. The light was really bright, despite being so early. I think partially because we had a hard frost that was still around when I was shooting.

I really enjoyed shooting this schooling show. There were some really lovely pairs and it's not often we see that many sport horse types at our barn! It made for a very pleasurable day. Looking through the photos, there are so many smiles!

Head Shots

I love, love, love head shots. It's one of the reasons that I truly enjoy taking shooting Thoroughbreds- that "look of eagles". So often it is the head shot that really expresses the personality of a horse. Here are a few of my favorites.

FCRS Cross Country Day

I took these photos on a very bright sunny day, about ten in the morning, early fall. It was a impromptu so I didn't have my monopod with me. It took me a while to figure out the shadows, but the parents and trainer of these girls were pleased with the photos. They were a pleasure to watch: competent riders on capable horses out to learn and have a good time.
